French Explorers coined the phrase, "bad lands to travel across." during the 1800's while travelling through this valley. One look at this rugged landscape and you'll know exactly why.

Today, we have the advantage of travelling along the 'Dinosaur Trail', visiting magnificent sites such as Horsethief Canyon, the Hoodoos

and Horseshoe Canyon in the comfort of a heated/air-conditioned tourvan. A covered wagon might not enjoy the same features.

The history in this area is diverse and mysterious; coal miners, horsethieves, Albertasaurus, duckbills, pioneer settlers, Hutterites, and oil and gas. Just to name a few. Did I mention Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles, movie stars, and a geologist named Joseph B. Tyrrell? They all have a piece of Drumheller's history.

You'll see one of the finest museums anywhere in the world at Drumheller's Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology. Here you can enjoy a walk through the history of all living creatures in a format that is entertaining, educational, and visually stunning.
